Mo Farag was born in the United States in 1985. Raised in Egypt, he studied piano and violin at the Cairo Opera House Talent Development Centre for young musicians before going on to study violin performance at the University of Toronto and then obtaining a master of music degree in composition from the University of Western Ontario. He currently plays in the 1st violin section of the Cairo Symphony Orchestra.
He has won prizes at the International Dvořák Composition Competition (3rd prize [senior category], 2012) and Zvi Zeitlin Composition Competition [4th prize 2014), and his pieces have been performed in the United States, Canada, Europe, and the Middle East. In 2016, his Concerto for Flute and Orchestra was premiered by the Cairo Symphony Orchestra. As of May, 2021, Mo holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Composition from Arizona State University. |
